About the Artist/Site

Glade emigrated from Germany in 1907 and lived in New York, Tampa, and Los Angeles before settling in Chico; in each site he built a garden. His fourth, the “Enchanted Cottage” in Chico, was constructed over a ten-year period of concrete “mud-pie” walls embedded with bits of plastic and glass, small pictures, ceramic plaques, and small figurines. It is no longer extant.
